US Social Media Personality Fined Following Large-Scale Electric Bike Gathering on Iconic Australian Bridge
New South Wales authorities have issued a fine against an American social media personality and handed out two driving violation citations for alleged reckless operation following a swarm of electric bicycle users gathered on the famous Sydney landmark during the busy commute on a weekday.
The Incident: An Illegal Gathering
A gathering of approximately 40 individuals operating e-bikes and motorcycles proceeded along the bridge’s main deck, where cycling is prohibited. The assembly subsequently reversed direction and traveled through the downtown area and Haymarket.
"This had a risk of people to be injured and killed," remarked a senior police official David Driver on Wednesday.
Law enforcement indicated they did not chase right away the group due to safety concerns but instead located the group at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the Botanic Gardens, where they dispersed.
Penalties Issued for Content Creator
Later in the week, authorities announced they had issued the American online personality who goes by the influencer, 26, with two traffic infringement notices for careless operation (not involving death or prior injury), carrying a fine of $562 and penalty points each, in relation to the bridge incident. Officials noted that inquiries were continuing.
The influencer is said to have over 3.4 million followers on YouTube and more than 1.2m on the social media app.
Creator's Response
The content creator spoke with a major newspaper recently after the incident gained traction on digital platforms, saying he regretted giving "bike life" a negative image.
"I’ll probably take responsibility. That was among the safest ride-outs I have witnessed," he said. "I am a visitor here, and I intend to come here respecting the laws and norms of the city. So when I decided to do a meet and greet it was not meant to include a ride-out, it was just to say hi near the bridge."
"I did not know the area well, it was my fault we found ourselves on the bridge and I had a decision to make: either the group rides the full length of the bridge and comes back, an illegal act. Or we reverse, essentially, before entering the bridge. I chose at the time to turn around."
National Debate on Electric Bike Rules
The spate of electric bicycles on roads nationwide has sparked increasing demands for stricter rules. The federal health minister, the minister, recently said that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."
"Kids have done stupid things on bikes since the invention of the penny-farthing [but] the injuries that are coming into our ERs are truly severe," he said. "We’ve got to ensure we prevent these things coming into the country [and] officers are granted the powers to crack down, to take them away, to crush them, to destroy them."
The state recorded 226 injuries associated with ebikes in the previous year. But, in the first seven months of 2025, that figure jumped to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four deaths.
