The Reason this DNC Refuses to Release their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

The move from the Democratic National Committee to suppress the publication of its internal post-election analysis on the 2024 election seems remarkable but not surprising. Opposed to unpleasant candor, the party's leadership apparatus often functions closer to a PR firm rather than an electoral entity devoted to cultivating grassroots capacities for winning elections.

A Culture Resistant to Internal Critique

Hesitant to break with the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has continued under that legacy throughout this past year. Publishing an official autopsy would have indicated that the leadership are interested to foster honest conversation regarding the errors which allowed the former president to win re-election. However, the DNC is proceeding as if there's nothing to glean from the stunning loss from the last cycle.

The top priority: is this good for winning elections? If the answer is no, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," a justification that has been offered for withholding the analysis.

Major Failures an Autopsy Might Have Examined

Any valuable post-mortem of substance would tackle head-on a series of difficult topics. Among them are:

  • Electoral Alienation: Failing to retain of millions of voters who voted for the Democratic ticket in 2020 proved pivotal during the tight 2024 election.
  • A Choice to Seek Re-election: The determined decision by the incumbent to stay in the race, and an extremely delayed exit, is seen by some as denying the party's base the chance for a competitive nomination process.
  • Losing Touch With Core Democratic Voters: Amid inflation, the campaign allegedly ceding to elite contributors without successfully attempting to address the role of corporate greed.
  • The Foreign Policy Factor: The failure to shift an approach on a major international conflict is cited as alienating key demographic groups, particularly with youth voters, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • A Decline in Youth Backing: Research indicates a significant decrease in votes for the candidate from voters aged 18-29.

A History Avoiding Accountability

This refusal fits a longstanding habit of sidestepping hard truths. It recalls a situation in which nearly all Democratic officeholder in Washington acquiesced to an incumbent's decision for running for re-election until a disastrous campaign event compelled an exit.

At the same time, overwhelming numbers of the electorate were consistently telling surveyors that they did not want that candidate to be the nominee.

Financial Questions

A thorough analysis might also probe issues about campaign spending, including the amounts were directed to high-priced advisors as well as ad buyers during an electoral effort which expended an enormous amount over a few months.

The Underlying Implication

At its core, the blockage surrounding this report points to a deference to the established hierarchy responsible for a disastrous national race. The message to rank-and-file members – including millions of small donors – appears to be that they do not have a right to know what party chiefs say they discovered based on an analysis drawing from conversations with insiders.

A party unwilling to honestly assess its mistakes is unlikely to escape the cycle that ended up being so advantageous to the winning candidate.
