Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United just seven months following instigating insulting songs targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a deal with the Championship strugglers until January. His seven-year career at Elland Road was ended through agreement in August.
Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead abusive songs about Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves away from the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder
Both men had history prior to Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
Everything seems has been put behind them with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder spread widely in April. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no problem at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him calling me.
“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Career Struggles
The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough player has struggled with injury in recent years.
