Our Task Consists of Only Killing' - How Sudan's Ruthless Paramilitary Group Conducted a Mass Killing
Warning: This Story Presents Disturbing Descriptions of Shootings.
Fighters smirk as they travel on the rear of a transport truck, speeding by a line of several dead bodies and moving towards the sinking Sudan's sunset.
"Observe all this accomplishment. Observe this instance of ethnic cleansing," a fighter cheers.
The fighter grins as he points the camera on himself and his associate fighters, their RSF insignia clearly shown: "They are all going to perish in this manner."
The men are celebrating a atrocity that relief organizations suspect resulted in the deaths of over two thousand individuals in the Sudanese urban center of al-Fashir in recent weeks.
An Urban Center Isolated from the Outside
Following their control of the city under blockade for nearly two years, from late summer the RSF proceeded to strengthen its control and prevent access for the leftover inhabitants.
Satellite images show that troops started to build a enormous berm - a built-up earthen wall - around the perimeter of the city, closing roads and preventing humanitarian assistance.
As the siege escalated, 78 civilians were murdered in an paramilitary attack on a place of worship on 19 September, while the UN stated fifty-three further were murdered in aerial and heavy weapon strikes on a refugee settlement in fall.
Explicit Video Shows Unarmed Civilians Shot
At dawn on late October the militia conquered the remaining government defenses and captured the primary compound in the city, the command center of the 6th Infantry Division, as the army retreated.
One of the most disturbing recordings to appear and studied revealed the results of a atrocity at a campus structure on the western of the city, where dozens dead bodies were seen spread over the floor.
An elderly person wearing a traditional garment remained alone amongst the victims. The man looked to gaze as a combatant carrying with a firearm moved along the staircase facing the individual. Raising his rifle, the shooter discharged a one bullet at the victim, who collapsed to the surface motionless.
"Why is this individual even alive," another fighter cried. "Execute him."
Satellite images recorded on late October indicated to substantiate that shootings were also performed on the streets of el-Fasher, according to a report published by the academic research center.
A key witness who communicated stated he had observed "multiple of our kin being executed - these individuals were assembled in a specific area and each one murdered."
RSF Officers Attempt to Carry Out Damage Control
In the days that followed the atrocity, RSF chief admitted that his fighters had committed "violations" and announced the occurrences would be investigated.
Among those detained was after a investigation detailing his executions. Deliberately staged and modified recording shared on the paramilitary's formal messaging account depict the individual being led into a detention area at a prison on the edges of al-Fashir.
At the same time, the RSF and affiliated social media profiles began seeking to reshape the narrative.
Content showing its combatants distributing aid to civilians were shared by some individuals, while the force's public relations unit published several clips purporting to display the compassionate handling of government detainees.
Despite the digital campaign being employed by the RSF, their actions in al-Fashir have generated worldwide anger.
