Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Substantial ATC System Failure
Flight operations have resumed at Edinburgh Airport after a significant technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.
All aircraft movements were stopped after an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.
A number of travelers were left waiting in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
Nonetheless, considerable delays are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with many others experiencing delays.
Officials had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be affected.
"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the latest information on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.
Root of the Disruption
The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.
Flyers are still being urged to check the status of their flight before heading to the terminal as residual delays are worked through.
