Gas Detonation Costs 3 Law Enforcement Officers While Executing Eviction Operation in the Verona Area

Three members of law enforcement perished and more than a dozen additional individuals sustained injuries in an apparently premeditated detonation from gas at a farmhouse in the northern part of Italy.

The blast took place as law enforcement and fire personnel went into the property in the vicinity of the city of Verona to carry out an court-ordered eviction for three siblings in their late 50s and mid-60s.

The three victims who died were members of the Carabinieri force.

Legal Proceedings

A man and a woman were arrested at the location and another man who escaped after the blast was located shortly later. Each of them have been transported to hospital.

The explosion could be audible approximately 5 kilometers away and images from the area displayed the structure left as a mass of wreckage.

Injuries and Destruction

Injured individuals by the explosion comprised an additional 11 personnel of the Carabinieri as well as a trio of personnel of national police and a firefighter.

Based on information from the local prosecutor, the property was in a derelict state and had was without power.

He was convinced the blast had happened on a level above the doorway and informed the press it was a “deliberate and pre-planned murder”. Shortly before the explosion, he revealed members had “detected a whistling noise, probably the propane tanks being turned on”.

Community Reaction

“Everyone was aware the circumstances were severe,” neighbors informed reporters, noting that the three had previously threatened to “detonate the property” rather than leave the house.

“The incident exacted a ‘dreadful, extremely sad and dramatic price’.”

Minister of Defence Minister Crosetto stood alongside other government officials in commemorating the three officers who had died in the line of duty.
