Fast bowler Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Problems.

'Significant concern' for the touring side after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler added to the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the ground early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left leg after the final ball of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp indicated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the tour at the SCG begins at the end of the week.

The English side has been without strike bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and another paceman to a side strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, before adding 28 as a batsman being one of only three teammates who passed ten runs.

Post a single over late on the first day, he came back on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of that over, he delivered a change of pace to Travis Head and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test having missed of the third.
