Ex- Bengals and Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Burned in Ranch Accident
Ex-University of Texas standout and professional football player Jordan Shipley is receiving treatment after sustaining serious burns in an accident on his property near Burnet, Texas.
The Accident
Per a release from his family, Shipley was using a machine when it ignited. The 40-year-old managed to escape, it was not before he sustained severe burns over a large area of his body. He reached a ranch employee, who transported him to a nearby medical facility. Subsequently, he was airlifted to a hospital in Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
“Please pray for full healing and no infections or other issues on his road to recovery,” posted his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on Instagram.
Extent of Burns
It has been reported that Shipley suffered third-degree burns to over one-fifth of his body. His brother noted that the main danger at this stage is the threat of infection and pneumonia.
A Look Back at Jordan Shipley's Football Journey
Shipley earned Associated Press All-America honors with the Longhorns in 2009. As a collegiate athlete, he recorded 248 career catches for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 scores. He also ran track for the university.
Drafted in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, he played for multiple NFL teams over his professional career. He officially retired in 2014.
