Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
