A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
